Three seasons, three stories: this can also happen

Not every year is like 2019. Sometimes you do everything right and the result is still poor. The graph captures it precisely and that is exactly why it is valuable even in bad years.

2023: a season without extraction

The year 2023 was exceptionally bad in Orava. Spring frosts, a cold May and a dry June. This combination gave the bees no chance.

Spring frosts damaged fruit tree blossoms before pollination. The cold May did not help either. And finally a dry June, no nectar from meadow flowers and lime. The result? Hive weight either fell or stagnated throughout the season. No extraction, and winter stores had to be secured by feeding.

It is easy to say afterward what happened. In real time it is frustrating. You open the hive, the bees are healthy, the queen is laying, and still they are bringing nothing in. This also happens, even to an experienced beekeeper, with a strong healthy colony, in a place that works well in other years. The graph showed it earlier than any inspection.

2024: close, but not enough

The year 2024 was better, but still below average. Nectar flow ran from April to June, but after each wave there came a week or two of bad weather. Bees consumed stores faster than they were bringing forage in.

In total 16 kg. For comparison, in 2025 there were 26 kg from lime alone in a few days.

Interrupted nectar flow has a characteristic shape in the graph, not one continuous rise, but a series of short gains with a slight fall or stagnation between them. That is exactly what the weight development in 2024 shows.

2025: lime saved the year

After two weak years came 2025. Spring was cold and the nectar flow weak, similar to 2024. Then, however, lime did well in the second half of June: 26 kg in a few days.

July had no nectar flow, only stagnation. From 10 August, feeding, the same procedure as in other years.

What follows from this

Three years, three stories. One common denominator: the hive scale. The graph captured it precisely, without unnecessary opening and without guessing.

In a bad year, 2023, you knew nectar flow was not running even if you were not at the apiary. In an interrupted year, 2024, you saw every wave and every decline. In a good year, 2025, you knew exactly when lime started and when it ended.

The scale does not change the weather. But it gives you the certainty that you know what is happening, even when the result is not what you would like.
